The Vision

 

The World Institute for Leadership Development (WILD) will serve as a global focal point and headquarters for the integral growth and development of emerging young leaders from around the world.   As a centre of learning, WILD will equip outstanding young leaders with the necessary thinking, skills and capacities to better manage increasingly complex global challenges - enabling them to contribute to the planet's future sustainable development.

 

Beginning with the launch of its signature global program in 2006, Global Stewards, and the launch of its regional, national and public programs post-2007, WILD will emerge as a global resource for inspiring, educating and training future leaders. By working with young leaders from local, national, regional and global networks, communities and organisations, WILD aims to become an international centre of excellence where creative, innovative and sustainable solutions to our planet's major challenges can be discovered. In its public role, WILD will showcase a range of unique and creative attractions, events and initiatives that speak to primary, secondary and tertiary aged young people and the broader community to foster a culture of social innovation.

 

The Rationale

 

As current leadership fails to tackle global problems of health, hunger, poverty, human rights, security and the environment (World Economic Forum, April 2004), it is now a matter of urgency that the centre of gravity of understanding in leaders be shifted away from partial and piecemeal approaches. Sustainable development cannot be expected without an integrated and multi-layered understanding. It is crucial that a more integral approach be adopted that brings more depth and more breadth into our understanding of current global complexity.

 

The World Institute for Leadership Development has been created to play a critical and influential role in cultivating a new generation of leaders with the capacity to apply this new learning when dealing with increasingly complex global challenges. WILD will work with young people to develop leaders that are capable of dealing with the level of complexity that is required to facilitate sustainable systemic change.

 

The Facility

 

This enormously ambitious project begins with WILD's vision to create its own iconic, state-of-the-art building in Melbourne, Australia, which will embody the richness, diversity and spirit of one of the world's most liveable cities. Importantly, this unique space and place will be thoughtfully developed in achieveable stages, from concept to implementation, by a team of outstanding young artists, architects, designers and engineers. This team will be responsible for the planning and development of WILD as a central and unifying public space, a landmark, a unique learning environment and a cultural magnet bringing together open spaces and innovative architecture and engineering.

 

The facility seeks to become not only a renowned and respected international headquarters for the integral growth and development of emerging young leaders from around the world, but a gangway across epochs and cultural boundaries and an enduring symbol of potential and possibility.
